No they didn't if you read to the end of the articles. That has always been an official type for that model.

I don't think it's a proper order but a "Letter of Intent".
Definition:
In a nutshell, the letter of intent is generally used to cover all non-binding preliminary agreements between parties to a transaction. ...

I expect BA could walk away if they wanted to.

Also note the airline specifies what is painted on the plane.

I guess the problem is not just where to store them but cash flow. It's no longer a couple of months delay but more like 9 months before they fix the problems and get recertified and then resume deliveries.

I have a feeling that they might have to replace the wings so that the engines can be fitted further back.
I guess that the planes will all have to be certified again anyway.
