"Citizen Kane" (1941). It's a shame that I haven't seen it before. And to be honest, I don't think I had to if not a college assignment. However, I'm really glad I watched it. A great movie and it's still looking great.
Unfortunately the opportunities to screen a large body of historical/alternative films have shrunk dramatically. I was lucky to be introduced to film as more than entertainment in 1966 by a film buff teacher.

I had a similar experience to Scott's -- but in college -- I opted out of ACS certification to take more electives outside of chemistry and had a phenomenal film instructor., also Shakespearean poetry and comparative theology instead of an awful ACS required chemistry course about rocks.
I will watch anything with Norma Shearer.
