I have grown Kohlrabi on several occasions. They remain fairly small, but become 'woody' if allowed to mature too long.

When young the texture is about the same as broccoli stalk heart.

Albert Roux has died. Not sure how famous the Roux family is on the other side of the pond but are considered to be part of the vanguard that saved the UK from chicken in a basket.

This cake came out nicely fluffy. Except for the butter cream part of course

I already posted the recipe here

Apparently, the vanilla market has crashed this year after a few years of craziness. I can't say that it is reflected in the prices in shops.

Nice looking cake!

Yeah, I was gifted a bottle of homemade vanilla extract and liked it - had 5 split beans in a 375ml bottle of vodka. I decided I'd buy some beans and make another batch - it was $35US for 5 beans!

I just put some more vodka back in the original bottle and called it good. And it surprisingly worked out fairly well.
