BLENDER MOTOR - 3 HP High Powered Emulsifier Blenders for Smoothies & Raw Food

The blender has had bugs living in it, much of the motor has a coating of rust, there are even specks of corrosion coming through the chrome on the places that are usually exposed to liquid when the jar seal leaks. It's had a rough time. But the wear isn't very bad really, so maybe I should try stretching the springs.

We have some roasted walnut oil that's too rancid to eat, and we're discovering it's effectiveness as a rust inhibitor and metal sealant. It's like a harder version of linseed oil. It might be worth a try to control the rust.

James Randi was also Alice Cooper's special effects guy in the 70's .

Yes, he did the beheading effect for Cooper. He had already made his reputation as a conjurer, an escape artist, and the exposer of the Uri Geller fraud. I can see why hucksters might have a fear and hatred of the "back up your claims with evidence" attitudes that he helped to teach people.

A fun demo with someone who isn't apparently a huckster- but has convinced himself of perceptual abilities that he doesn't have:

And, by contrast, a huckster:

Oops. Those darn Randians and that evidence stuff. Unfair!

Noting on the Randi video the comment of the "astonishment", :D, that paranormal doesn't work when disbelievers are about ... something that some might like to consider is that at some level all human activity is a "game", an interweaving, a tapestry of behaviour where full understanding and co-operation between the participants occurs, even though they are entirely unconscious of this, in the normal sense. So, for example, hypnosis is a "performance" by both parties, the hypnotist and the subject, the latter "pretending" to be 'controlled' by the puppeter ... and further, if a believer, and a disbeliever, of almost anything you care to name ;), are in the same space then what apparently transpires depends on how important it is to the world view of both of those parties for the phenomenon to manifest, or to not manifest, on that occasion - a bargain is struck, so to speak, "behind the scenes", and that determines what you actually get, what a video recording would show ...

Good point about the "bargain".

But

Insofar as we depend on social feedback, our senses and reason, there is a lot that ca go wrong due to error: deception by others and our selves; bad descriptions; bad theory; limited sensory apparatus.

So even when the "bargain is struck" we still have to keep in mind the invisible gorilla that ran through the video.

Distraction is a powerful tool in deception - but how many times are you going to fall for the same trick? Once desensitised, through repetition, to the "newness" of the behaviour, then one can turn a critical eye towards understanding the artifice, watching for the little giveaways of the stage machinery ... time, and continual exposure to a behaviour are the heavy weapons for achieving better understanding ...

Yes, in the audio world this is the antithesis of the normal ABX testing, and where such ABX testing stats fall down.

As a system hones toward 'straight wire with gain' (sic) 'perfection', sonic faults reduce/diminish in objective amplitude and reduce/diminish in subjective irritation, but not necessarily in that order.

Repetition/'continual exposure' to all genres of music, and all quality of recordings will show up particular misbehaviours in all systems.

Once heard/noticed, these (can be transient) misbehaviours are noted and indexed by the ear/brain sytem.

Less annoyances/misbehaviours equals better reviews.

Serendipity, yesterday there was an extended AM radio interview with Mr James Randi, who gave a short autobiography including his earlier careers involving escapism and illusionism.
Seemingly smart guy with lots of good and intelligent things to say.
He maintains that all people can be fooled,.....all of the time....eeediot.

I had one like that. The seal bearing on the bottom of the liquid container would bind, sometimes to the point of stalling the motor. Took some work to free it up.

Do you know if it's a shaded pole motor?
