I just measure the Idss of 8 of the LSK170C from the store and was astounded at the results!

4 @ 10.16

Very tight, but, (and maybe I misunderstand) for most of the Pass amps like F-5 and so forth that use the 170 and J74 pair, dont the both of them need to be as similar as possible to each other in their Idss? If so, how does one get around that? Order 170 parts until you hit a match for your complimentary J fet? Or is this not a requirement and the pots make up for it?

I noticed Spencer no longer has "matched" 170 and J74 pairs... I still have several matched sets of Toshibas I bought when they were available but they wont last forever. If my concerns are not valid, let me know so I wont worry about this!

yes, it is difficult finding matches as you say. I am still trying though.
