A remote volume control kit by Silicon Chip Magazine Australia (2002 Issue).
PIC-based, uses a motorised potentiometer (included, but you can use your own like Alps) and has mute function.
You can use any universal remote to control it. Comes with a copy of the SC magazine article with assembly instruction.
The kit is small enough to fit into most amplifiers.
Asking $35 + $11 shipping via airmail.

The PIC (PIC16F84) is programmed for RC5 codes under CD1, TV1, SAT1 and AV1.
It just needs any universal remote control that can control a Philips TV set. If you already have a universal remote for a TV or DVD, you can control this under CD1 or other modes using the same remote.
The pot that comes with the kit is a 50k log one.
Cuibono did not respond, so it is back on the market. This is a high quality kit designed by Silicon Chip Australia.
