Default What 18" driver would you choose for a dipole?

Powered by say a Hypex FA501.

Around 300 Euro or less.

I've been eye'ing:
B&C 18TBX100 and RCF LF18G401

With your moniker, the better question in my mind is: what driver would you choose for your app since an OB is the inverse of a bass horn?

Have you considered the resonance frequency of this kind of enclosure? It's dependent on the depth of the cavities. An 18" will push the resonance down to around 150Hz. If the openings are small (like you have drawn them) compared to the depth the resonance will have an elevated Q (meaning peaky) and you typically have to cross over well below that, e.g. 80Hz.

The other concern is that if you use one 18" driver in this kind of setup there will be a lot of vibration. Better would be two 15s operating in opposite directions. Is there any particular reason why you want to use a single 18?

Anyway, if you were in the US I would recommend this driver:
IB3 Series - IB318 v2 | Fi Car Audio
I'm not sure how expensive shipping would be to your location, but it's probably not cheap. The driver does fit within your budget.

Hi Erik,

They are to augment my open baffle Bastanis. (I have active sub 15" closed box) But I want to add the 18 inch dipole subs as Bastanis offers already. I just don't have the moolah to get the "official" units.

The current subs are set to a low pass 90Hz. So these will be similar.

Basically because it is a proven concept for the bandwith it is aimed at. See pic of the dipoles Bastanis sells.

Basically what Bastanis designed them for. I made my baffles for the widebands a little wider...so 80Hz seems fine to me.

Looks like most constructions from Bastanis are ripoles.

Did you consider these:
SB Audience Bianco 18SW450 - first impressions (open baffle)
12-18" in the series and quite reasonably priced.
