Not sure I believe they're 'better' per se, but more due to designing in more [linear] stiffness to lower Vas, so that they will acoustically 'fit' in smaller cabs and 'sag' is still an issue if it exceeds a certain calculated limit or one runs the risk of needing a re-cone if driven to anywhere near its Xmech, though of course it's more likely to happen with an underhung motor or one that has very little difference in its Xmax Vs Xmech specs.
