Subwoofer Cabnet Extra Damping

Hi, I have budget 12" Subwoofer, I removed the speaker and there is no damping material inside at all. would I benefit from layering the inside with this material.

or should I just use some dacron speaker stuffing.

I think in this case the stuff from Jaycar would be more suited to what you want to do. Line the walls on all sides. Keep it away from the rear of the woofer and the port opening (I assume it is a ported box). I would use glue (non-petroleum based) and staples to attach the material to the walls.

Stricly speaking internal damping is not required in subs due
tthe internal modes being much higher than the cut-off.

I can't see the jaycar stuff being effective in this application.

Add Dacron / Polyfill / BAF (bonded acetate fibre) internally,
covering at least the back, top or bottom and one of the sides,
with a thick layer, say 4" minimum, but higher the better.

Alternatively stuff completely as best you can, but if there is
a port keep the stuffing away from the area of the port exit.

wouldn't stuffing around or in the port lower the tuning frequency or something?? lol

Stuffing the box volume will reduce Vb reducing the port and driver
tuning and increasing damping , i.e. decreasing Q somewhat.

Damping near the port exit reduces effective reflex loading and
is only of benefit in mistuned cabinets, though it can be applied
to deliberately reduce the reflex port effect.

Don't be led astray. The Jaycar stuff is made with felt (wool) which will be much more effective than dacron batting in damping standing waves or reflected noise. It is also weighted vinyl backed which will help to damp the box wall vibrations.
