Its easier to move 2x single cabinets, and you've got the option to iron out room nodes by seperating the sources.
If you wanted them next to each other, that can easily be done, but when you consider that you won't use much extra wood in doing 2 extra sides compared to additional bracing, 2x single cabs start to make more sense.

I'm aware of those aspects, and would generally agree with you. I'm thinking about building the PAL12, and it seems to me that the narrow width and relatively high weight makes a single somewhat less manageable. I calculate the cab weight for a single would be at least 100 lbs, which precludes a single man lift. A double cab I'm thinking would be 150 lbs or less.
I mainly wondered if there are any inherent aspects to the TH design that would make a double driver version respond differently than two single cabs.
Two pieces of 38" x 30" 3/4" Baltic Birch is not an insignificant weight, internal bracing could be 1/2" pine or whatever.
