Here's a little project I've been working on here and there for awhile. It uses 2x MCM 55-2421 High Excursion 8" Woofers in a sort of front-loaded bandpass horn/ rear-loaded reflex ported cabinet. The design was a bit of a stab in the dark at the time it was built. I wasn't quite sure how the two high-excursion drivers would react in the 90 degree front-loading. The reflex of the rear-loading should have been fine as it was modeled with winISD for a tuning of 30hz with a delay of 14 ms (the port is pretty long). The cabinetry and finish ended up being really nice and it now exists in my car as a 2Ohm cabinet with a Kicker amp. There is an in-lay of plywood edge-grain wrapping the cabinet for looks. It is definitely powerful with cabin gain around 30-40hz, but also noticably drops off in the upper bass around 100hz. This is what the modeling in winISD had depicted as well. The bass is rich, but also a bit slow due to the long port length. I enjoy it overall and the drivers sure don't cost much.
