heat sink

im trying to fix a surround sound sub and wanted to know if theres anything special you need to do when putting the heat sink back on (other than the paste) can you just put the paste on and be done or do you need to do anything like with a xbox 360 and heat it up and let it cool to make a connection.
 
I guess this depends on the thermal grease you are using. There are thermal greases that also act as glue. The standart thermal grease used with the CPUs in desktop pcs is non-glue type and doesn't need any pre-heating for example. Look at the datasheet of your grease and it should be fine.
Other than that, cleaning the contact points with alcohol is good thing. And less is more.
