Did you check the fuses, switch signal, speakers? A pictures speaks a thousand words.Capacitors?
Consider the age/quality of each component in your system from Source to Speaker.
I had a similar problem with my vintage set. I also noticed that the Preamp was heating up more than it used to, so I opened it up. I replaced all of the capacitors in the PreAmp and it totally stopped happening. (Can't change the amp - It is constructed so that I can't get to the Caps in there)
I can't say that this is the problem in your system, but it might be. See the post before this for other possible sources of your problem. Also, try to give us more information to work from in narrowing down the possibilities.
