With attenuated input levels H2 and H3 are significantly lower indicating that most of the former distortion was a matter of the soundcard and not the DUT. As expected with such setting THD+N figure is measured sub-optimal.
Meanwhile I managed to modify my MOTU-M4 Mic-input1 to a hi-resolution line input similar to line inputs 3&4 making this accessible to linux as well.
