Default Anyone have any experience servicing a Yamaha rx-a2050?

Have a wired problem that has me baffled.

Let the unit set unplugged for a few days and I have sound and Video.

After about 10-20 minutes of playing I start loosing the audio starting with the back channels.

Then I can change the volume and it's locked (sound) where it was set. I can turn the know up and down and see the display move but then I loose all audio. Headphones, test tone, speakers everything.

I know the dsp chip seems to be working because it will recognize dts and hd and such.

Any clues where to start?

Thanks!

- jeff

Jeff:
I know next to nothing about SS gear.

If there are any connectors on/between the boards I'd connect/disconnect them and give the contacts a shot of contact cleaner.

You might be able to find a service manual online for that receiver or a similar one - most of those modern receivers have diagnostics built in, and the commands can be similar between models.
I don't think this site has the service manual for your unit, but you might find something helpful by looking at the ones for other models:
https://www.manualslib.com/brand/yamaha/receiver.html

I just got an older Yamaha (rxv596) and found the manuals there.
Good luck!

Thanks Victoriaguy,
I just bought the service manual, it's going to save me a lot of hair for 12.99.

First thing I did was force a update, but no luck. It's almost like the mute circuit is forced on so I guess I'm going to start there.

Fortunately there are on screen diagnostics but I looked at them before and didn't get something that stood out.

It's amazing (to me) how much 'technology' there is in those receivers, but it sure makes fixing them more difficult/complex than an old tube amp!
