On checking this amp, the reason for no sound on the left channel was due to the Balance pot. One side was open. This is a 50KMN pot and totally not available here, so replaced with a 50KB pot. The problem is, when the Balance is in the Centre, the overall volume is lower than normal. When panned left or right, that respective channel sounds louder than when the balance is in the Centre. Is there any solution to this problem. Please advice.

Looks like that pot might be 50K on each side of center. Normally when the pot is centered there is NO resistance in the signal path and when turned the signal gets attenuated thru the resistance to ground. Using a larger value normal linear pot might work. You'll want the least amount of attenuation possible.
