Yep, the standards are too high for the diy builder today. It should be called btc `better than commercial`.
Also take a look at this:

I think the key is to not use the resistors anywhere near their power rating. I finally have a good distortion analyzer at my disposal so I can physically test this. DIY Audio Analyzer with AK5397/AK5394A and AK4490

Our home built amplifiers are usually better than commercial. I've had quite a few people run my VHex amps in their systems and they've all commented on how much better the detail and sound image is.

Let`s say that i just informed you what the competition says about smd thick film resistors.
For sure your amplifiers sound good. I have tested myself.

If you're curious maybe try swapping out the resistors in the feedback path and see if you can hear or measure any difference.

I reasonably doubt that will be a difference. The CFA measures better than 0.0009 distortion, practically 0.0009 is the limit of my measuring system.

That was my thinking as well. The NS amps are very hard to improve on. The distortion they are seeing is more likely to do with the implementation than the quality of the part.

Default Valery's Tribute-3000

I'm working my way through implementing Valery's updated Sansui Ba-3000 driver and OPS. I don't have a BA-3000 but I have a BA-2000, About 10v less B+ and a slightly smaller chassis. Well, its was smaller It's not smaller anymore.

I think the updated boards can be seen in the center picture. OPS mounted on the heat sinks and the green driver boards.

I have to go to work again so itíll be an couple weeks before I get back to it.
