Help Choosing Test Equipment

I have got the bug and am heavily into building and modifying transistor and chip amps but have no real test equipment to help me. I have just purchased a used oscilloscope, but need a signal source. I have seen function generators and audio oscillators for sale. Is the oscillator a simplified function generator? Will either do the job? If the price is right which should I go for?

Test Equipment

You could think about getting a tektronix TM mainframe, there are versions with 3, 4 and 6 plug in slots.

Here is a 3 slot version.

Then add a FG501 or FG501a function generator. I would get a FG rather than an oscillator, since it makes different waveforms (square, triangle, sine).

And you would have 2 spots left for something else, maybe a power supply?

Maybe a DMM?

Here is a link to someone I have found helpful in obtaining test equipment for a good price, just send him an email.

(Looks like I cited to the same guy's auctions, I don't know him and just cited those to illustrate the different models available, no idea if he is good or not.)
