I tried the eBay MX50 DIY Kit, Class AB 100W+100W; Worked but problem

Hi,

I have mounted the MX50X2 in another existing enclosure.

On the ljm thread, members told me that 47vdc was too much for this amplifier, especially with 4ohms. So I left the 37vdc transformer.

I would like to go into bi-amplification with this amplifier. I have a question, does anyone know this PCB from ljm?

1pair Original Clone British X50 Classic Musical Fidelity Power Amplifier Board | eBay

Unlike the other, it has its own PSU, it's more or less good news, because it doesn't seem great ... the good news is that I have 2 other 100va transformers that would go well with these PCB.

PS: I dismantled the L12-2, very good sound but the soundstage lacks depth.

Hi,

I'm still waiting for my new slim case.

I decided to put a 2nd pair of MX50X2 with a single power supply for the 4 PCBs.

I was hesitant to separate the amps, but I really like the sound, so my speakers will be bi-amplified drivers. These are 3-way speakers. The woofer is 4 ohms and 8ohms for the midrange which is cut into 800hz and 8khz.

So on a pair of amplifiers I will install a potentiometer at the back of the box to adjust the woofers with the midrange/tweeter.

Hi,

I have 4 MX50X2 PCBs, 2 that have been working for months.

I added 2 more, and 2 new ones, a resistor went up in smoke on my test bench, after only 2-3 minutes.

Could someone help me and tell me if the change in resistance is sufficient.

Check the photos.
Denis

Hi,

Here is a quick review of the MX50X2.

At first I was skeptical as I found the L12.2 had more dynamics and punch. Subsequently when I upgraded my preamp (I had a DCB1 Hot Road), and also 2 new double DAC ES9038. I rediscovered the MX50X2.

It is a clone of the old Musical Fidelity X-A50 (monoblock). The strength of the MX50X2 is the sounds and tonal balance. It is in my opinion much superior to the L12.2 which is thin especially in the lower midrange and a bass that lacks volume.

I listen to a lot of classical and jazz music in HIFI streaming mode. My speakers are VERY detailed and a great depth of image and dynamics. These are 3 ways that I designed, Wavecor woofer in a TL cut at 800hz, followed by a medium (fullrange) Faital up to 8khz, followed by an AMT tweeter.

So I have an MX50X2 amp on each woofer and an amp on the midrange-tweeter pair. This is my main hi-fi kit.

To come back to the sound, on each recording we have the sound signature and the soundstage in a precise and realistic way. The voices are well positioned and have an adequate volume. The dynamics are quite impressive with my new DAC. The timbres of acoustic instruments sound realistically. With good studio, pop or jazz recordings, it's pretty impressive what comes out of it.

The bass is powerful and does not compress even at very high volumes. This amplifier gives 100w at 4ohms, my Wavecor have 4ohms, and 50w 8ohms, for my high midrange. I also have a studio quality sub with balanced XLR input. So my DAC has 2 types of outputs, RCA and XLR. The MX50X2 are powered by RCA (via preamp OPA1692 and Boberly Super Shunt Regulator).
