What are the popular heatsink suppliers,
low cost to high cost, simple to exotic heatsinks
for high powered amplifiers? I wanted to make
a list of common dimensions from these heatsinks
so I can try to figure out what PCB board dimensions
to use for the Aussie Amplifier AV800 project.
What I'm trying to figure out is .......
If I do printed circuit layout on CAD, would it be best
to make the board dimensions compatible
for various types of heatsinks depending
on what power level you plan to operate the
amplifier?
I want a flexible pcb design that allows small, medium,
or large heatsinks depending on application, perhaps
mounting the pcb directly on the heatsink with standoffs
and the transistors clamped to a strip of metal
that is also mounted on the heatsink. similar to what
the home audio folks do with their multichannel
amplfiiers, where each channel is a module.
Or....
Should I abandon this idea and just mount "whatever"
pcb on a 1/4" aluminum plate, then mount "whatever"
heatsink on the plate ?
