Default EDA with vacuum tubes symbols

Can anyone recommend a simple Open Source Circuit Design Software with a library that has vacuum tubes symbols?

TIA,

/DL

Hi dl1964,

Is it specifically open-source you're after ? To tinker with the code ? Or would free circuit design software do ?

i used gEDA for a while (free, open-source, runs under Linux), then PSpice for a few years (very NOT free, certainly not open-source). Neither have thermionic valve symbols built in, you have to generate them yourself.

However, i have recently started using LTspice from Analogue Devices. It's free (but not open-source) and many users here find it useful. Valve symbols are (i think) included in the install, triodes, tetrodes and pentodes, but are also available on t'internet.

What do you want to use this EDA softwear for ? Just drawing circuit diagrams or simulating circuits ?

EDA is a right rigmarole, i'm a pen-and-paper design guy. All EDA (Electronic Design Automation) softwear is a right faff. There's a lot of mucking about to do.

So what are you up to ? What aspect of EDA do you need ?

All the best,

Neil xx.

Hi Neil,

Thank you so much! I've downloaded LTspice yesterday, and was going to install it later today, not realizing it has some tube symbols already in the install. If that's the case, I'm golden!
I'm just looking for a neat way for keeping circuits drawing documented, and my hand written diagrams are far from neat... that's all, nothing fancy (well, not at this point anyway).
Thx again!

/DL

LT has valve symbols located under 'Misc' in the component selector.

Click the arrowed symbol to get back to the top directory.

Click my sig line to see how to use LT

...or even easier:

Cheers Mooly,

Hi dl1964,

For proper neat drawings, good for publishing but of no use whatsoever in EDA i use Macromedia Freehand 11. It's free because Adobe preferred to support their own softwear (Illustrator) and discontinued Freehand.

i've used Freehand (Aldus, Macromedia, then Aldus) since 1990 and it is the very best.

Xx.

As did I back in the day, for network diagrams. Then I decided I sucked at this and started using Visio...

Thx much!

KiCad has a variety of valve symbols if you want to actually draw circuit diagrams
