I am an absolute beginner in this field and the task is very simple: I would like to copy the existing single-sided layout of an existing through hole board from the eighties. No SMD, no multilayer. Goal is to check if the traces layout could be squeezed into a tighter place. So nothing is designed from scratch. It is a bit like a program that can turn a bookpage into editable text. I have the schematics as well. As symbols are standardized I also wonder if it has become a feature that a (printed) schematic can be translated into a pcp layout, especially when it is a single sided pcb. Mac preferred, freeware or a time limited trial.
