I'm happy to announce that the Active Crossover Designer has reached version 2.0. This new release has some under-the-hood upgrades, the tutorial has been redone to better illustrate how to tweak the filter tables, and there is a new extension that makes FRD file importing and exporting a breeze.

With release 2, the tools now work in Open Office Calc (version 3.3 or later).

For those who are not familiar with ACD, here is a summary:
  • ACD is a measurement based, active crossover design program
  • Crossovers are described as sets of filter blocks.
  • Any filter type up to second order biquadratic can be used, including the Linkwitz Transform and first and second order shelving filters
  • A frequency shaping filter or crossover can be designed for up to a 4-way loudspeaker
  • The software can be expanded to model line arrays with custom programming (please contact author for more info)
  • All filter parameters can be exported to the MiniDSP crossovers (with advanced biquad capability) so that the crossover can be implemented immediately

For more information, see the ACD web page:

The tutorial shows how to turn these raw driver responses (shown below) into a nice flat frequency response (see two below):

After the tutorial we have this response:

Let the fun begin!
