Default Speaker Placement Rectangle Room

Hi Everyone,

I'm moving into a place and need to decide which is the best wall for my speakers and listening position. All the advice online shows enclosed rooms, which doesn't help with real world open living floor plans.

Do I place on the short or long wall? I have some difficult doorways and kitchen etc.

I intend to have two bookshelf speakers (B&W 805) on stands and a 3 seater lounge in this room. I also want to install panels to first reflection points and possibly ceiling.

I've attached a layout and some photos from the realestate listing.

Really appreciated your input.

you could just place them where you want/can, then run some frequency response tests.

It doesn't look like there is an easy place to spread those speakers out on the short walls so I suspect the long wall opposite from the kitchen would be best. Ultimately measurements and your ears are going to tell the story.

I think you're kinda forced to place them on the long wall as everywhere else is in the way.

All that tiled floor is going to be an issue, the place must sound like a bathroom or airport acoustically

Definitely in the dining room, with a large wool rug on the floor.

Hang open baffle speakers from the ceiling!

I did this in my house and love the result. The speakers are up and out of the way.

Ultimate Open Baffle Gallery

I donít know if thatís an option for your speakers, but itís outside the box.

Similarly, some foamcore Karlsonators would be light enough to hang from the ceiling.
