Quick quick question !

I want to build a alpeh 5 amp, just want to know for the power supply filtering it a good idea to use 120000uf 50v cap for filtering ?? or I am better with a bank of 10000uf 50v cap ??

if quality of caps in question is in same league-it's always better to use several smaller ones

I've seen arguments both ways. Basically, my feeling is that as long as the total capacitance is the same, then you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference.
I am currently experimenting with big caps feeding smaller ones at the devices--sorta having it both ways, if you follow what I'm saying. No final opinion, yet.

I was also thinking to build a ``perfect capacitor`` by doing a decreasing series of cap.. like : 10,000uf --> 5,000uf --> 1,000uf --> 1uf --> .1uf to filter a whole range of freq.. and finally a RC to filter residue of inductance.. good or too much ?

Can't hurt....

Hi again,

1rst : I can get 50000 uF 60V cap by vishay(sprague) or duracap(mallory) is there a significant difference between them ?

2nd: I was thinking to get 8 of theses but is it too much 100,000uf per rail (for aleph 5) ?

thank

I would go for the Sprauge Caps, and I would put as many in as can fit in the cabinet - capacitance is on of the few things ou cannot have to much of...

Caps have been discussed over and over in here - size, make, configuration, C's L's and so on - try and give the search function a try......

Cheers !
