Hi all.

As I´m sourcing parts för my Aleph 5 I find an article at Rod Elliots about regulated power supplys for class A amps. This picture is in it:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Capacitance Multiplier Article

Does anyone of you Hard Core Aleph Experts have any experience with this kind of solutions? Is it the wrong way to adress the problem with hum in power supplies?

I think such a supply would be good for Aleph 5.
Most amplifiers will benefits from some sort of a regulated supply.

You may have to use another transistor than TIP3055
and/or put several power transistors in parallel.
To make sure they can take power and current.

Cap Multipliers does not take away all voltage variations.
But most important they reduce ripple ( small AC voltages at 100 Hz ) considerably.
By using a cap multiplier you will not have to spend too much money
buying several enormous celectrolytic caps.
Still you can get a supply that is maybe even more free from ripple.

Nelson Pass uses non-feedback regulation supplies
in some of his amplifiers.

Here is a typical unregulated supply for Aleph 5

Hi Buff. Nelson did a nice writing about regulated supplies. Take a look at this, if you didnt read it allready.

You would propably have to parallel at least 2 devices for an Aleph 5. I have used the circuit on several occasions with really good results. You can leave out the zeners and it will work as a C-multiplier removing any noise from the supply.
