The T/T seems designed primarily as a means of transferring vinyl to a pc and with convenience as the priority .
You may get better sound by by passing the built in phono stage ( it can be turned off ) and using either a separate one or the one built in to an amp.
The limiting factor is going to be the lightweight arm /cartridge .
Of course it is possible to modify anything ..you just need a big enough hammer. :)
Happy New Year

The stylus is replacable however Sony have made several changes since the t/t was first released.
It originally came with a Sony cartridge but later models had a Audio Technica fitted.
The Sony cartridge was improved by changing the stylus for an AT model .
The biggest problem with early versions was skipping due to the lightweight arm and no adjustment available .
Later models had the weight factory set at 3.5 g but this creates other issues and in some cases needs to be offset using blutac at the rear of the arm.
Some models have a small screw at the end of the arm that give around 1 g of +/- extra adjustment .
Unfortunately ( without trying to sound negative ) it was designed for convenience above quality.
