Make sure to see post #1453 for an important tweak for the original circuit boards! This tweak has been incorporated in subsequent versions (1b & 1.5) so if you have those circuit boards or kits it's already added to the board, and the part (R15) included in the kits

I try to understand this circuit. Any difference if output taken direct from source of Q2 instead of through R1//R2?

Looks like I have another toy to play with. Thanks Nelson
Even greater thanks for designing the PCB.
I don't have time for point to point wiring anymore.

Is it ok to replace Q1 with IRFP9240 and run as source follower?

The other option is run more feedback in the final amp. I'd rather have less gain or no gain.

I'm lookin at this thing thinkin... If you change out Q1 with a Semisouth part... :D

Yes that is for certain.
Now that I have some high effiiciency speakers, I think I will be buying 10 of these PCB's and set them up with different components, operating points etc, just for fun and to see what the audible difference might be.

Or, maybe a SIT part in place of Q1?

I like this topology.

Here are a few similar designs that I have come up with a while back, although all of them shown but one uses an opamp for the input stage,

I have many versions like this ranging from low voltage to high voltage designs using both opamps and BJT's for the input stages.

Enjoy !!!

The feedback of the DIYers at Amp Camp #1 will be valuable to read.
