12v chipamp w/ ~100watt THD+ N <0.05%
Spotted in my regular TI email list:

"210W Stereo PurePath(TM) Digital Power Stage ... The TAS5162 is a high-performance, integrated stereo digital amplifier power stage with an improved protection system. It is capable of driving a 6-ohm BTL at up to 210W per channel at THD = 10 percent, low integrated noise at the output, low THD+N performance without clipping and low idle power dissipation. It does not require power-up sequencing due to internal power-on reset. Features include: >90 percent efficiency, >110dB SNR and <0.09 percent THD plus N at 1W to meet the Dolby 1W specification. Applications: DVD receivers, A/V receivers, DVD mini-component systems. Price (1ku): $4.95 - More ( ltr_20070715 )

I'm generally not to impressed with claims of 200+ watts from a 12 VDC power source, but a hundred watts w/ less than 0.05 distortion (THD + N) is quite decent quality. :smash:

the chip requires 2 supplies, one at 12v and one at 50v

It's on the spec sheet.

" ... chip requires 2 supplies, one at 12v and one at 50v ..."

Oops, my mistake ... In this case that's not a very good deal after all ...

Several points:

The PSRR of this device is quite low, less than 60dB if using a 50hz/60hz supply, less than 30dB when using a switching supply.

Using a typical non-regulated supply found in audio amplifiers and not driving it into clipping and 10% THD, it will be more like 100W/8R.

It also is just the output stage, it must be driven from a DSP chip and a ÁP.

djk: Yes, the chip has only one thing going for it = it is cheap = US$5 per ...

(Sorry for the thread without a more careful analysis. :xeye: )
