Get a battery. Two, if you have to. Why make it so hard????

Skinnyboy: Yes, Jocko is right. A car battery plus charger will probably weigh less than your proposed PSU.

On smoothing caps in PSU filters, simply remember CV = IT = Q.
T is time in seconds
I is the current drawn in amps
C is the capacitance in Farads
V is the change in voltage.
Q is the charge on the cap in Coulombs.

Use this eqn to calculate the necessary capacitance to achieve a specified ripple: V = ripple(p-p), T = 1/100 (for fullwave rectifier off 50Hz mains) or 1/120 (for fullwave rectifier off 60Hz mains).
