Here is my homebred UC 3v3 supply. EBay lt3042 that struggles to charge from empty. I did a series current measure and I got 250ma, so the ILIM resistor on these boards isn't keeping the current down enough within the limits of the chip and hence it shutting down from a 'cold start '.

I put the purple reg back in with the caps at 2v6 and measures the 250ma. Reg was hot to the touch and measured 40+C but it worked and then the current dropped right down to negligible and it cooled right off once 3v3 reached.

Next step to try on a load. Probably try clean fifo side.

@jimk04,

Sorry for a delayed response on this. I use Ian's LT3042 regulator boards to charge my DIY'd Point-to-Point UCPi UC pairs to the target voltage. One has a ILIM resistor to limit the current to about 250mA, all of the others have that position jumpered and rely on the chip's native max current cutof.

ALL work just fine to charge any of my raw UC pairs.

Ian's boards use a ground-plane on the back of the board as a heatsink. That has been sufficient and none have ever shut down.

Perhaps there is something else going on with that circuit... or perhaps they are not real LT0342? Mine are from Digi-Key or Mouser.

My 2 cents.
