im planning to build 330-0-330 with 6.3 ct using 2x el84 and 2x12ax7 and uf4007 bridge config,i found this site sir tony............Calculate Tube Amp Power Transformer Current
i tried and get this result
Selected transformer voltage: 325-0-325

Calculated voltage at first capacitor (B+): 445.25V. Subtract 6V, if using choke.

Calculated filament current (typically the 6.3v secondary): 2.18A

Calculated current: 62.56mA at 16521R calculated load (10% plus factored in). Preamp valves current draw is estimated at typical 12AX7 max dissipation of 1.2W at 330V, i.e. 3.6mA per triode

what available core can i use?deeco ordinary cores

New Build

Hello Tony sir

I am going to build New toroidal transformer core dimension are as follows.
OD- 140mm
ID - 90mm
Ht - 50mm
Window area mm2 - 6358
Effective cross-sectional area mm2 - 1187

A core is an M4 grade (strip thickness 0.30mm, core weight around 3.3Kg)
upon My calculation core is maximum 1100VA.So winding details as follows. Mains supply - 230v/50Hz
secondary Voltage req- 65-0-65
TPV- 2.53
Avareg turn length-160mm
Primary turn- 581, Length - 93M
Primary Current- 4.86A
Di of primary magnet wire- 1.63mm
Secondary Turn - 165( dual magnet wire for 65-0-65v) ,Lenth- 53M
Secon Current- 8.6A
Di of secondary magnet wire- 2.34mm
Window used by Primary(mm2)- 1545
Window used by Secondary(mm2) - 1800
Total Copper req - 4.5Kg
Copper area mm2- 3180

Magnet wire is SWG
Is upon this calculation My toroidal Transformer give me 65-0-65(8.5A)/ 1100VA or not, please help and currect if I miss somethink

Thanks
Best regards

i thought that too but first, are my computations possible (power:core) ratio?
secondly the way i look at it as i have samples of number 14 wire
in a window of 1"x3" less the bobbin roughly i would take 7/8 x 2 3/4 allowable winding area, so based on actual #14 magnet wires can turn up to 38 in a 2 3/4 bobbin size. I multiplied 38 x 5 = 190, and 5 turns of #14 occupies about 3/8 of an inch.
next the available window left was 1/2 x 2 3/4 unfortunately i do not have #11 sample but as i look into your table turns per linear inch
enamel D.S.C. or S.C.C. D.C.C
#14 15.0 14.20 13.8 i used 14 turns per linear inch as presumption = it works
#11 10.7 10.3 9.8 i used 9 since i do not have sample to compare with.
the bottom line here are my interpretation and calculations based on your table correct?

thanks
regards

the coil build up is what we look at, if that fits then you can go...

#14 has a diameter of 1.63 mm
#11 has a diameter of 2.3 mm

so how many layers for primary?
how many layers for secondary?
this will guide you to make the final decision...

GOOD day sir tony as i have ask before from this thread, (referring to post #967) now i have made the final traffo. it's quite interesting. the traffo was under curing in about 48h now, maybe i will plug it with no load as i get home tomorrow. i have successfully wind number 14AWG and number 11AWG secondaries with 65-0-65vAC. and i have got some vacant space so i have added about 20v+20v to be used for Class H later. here are some documentations

thanks
sam

BIG Traffo now complete.....2.25 center leg stacked to 6 inches.....58 lbs beast...
@240 vac primary, secondaries are 2 x 60, 2 x 72, 2 x 12, 1 x 15 volts auxiliary windings....
primary winding is electrostatically shield..
this beast can provide huge amounts of power, for rectifiers i will be using 2 x 72 amp bridge rectifiers and for filter caps, 2 x 68k ufd.100vdc in parallel with 4 x 47k ufd.100v filter caps...fixing bolts are 6mm diam, nylon shoulder washers are used...

Hi Mr. Tony, nice to meet you here, I just saw some of your post and look like you are doing amazing transformer here in Philippines, so you are able to do customise transformer I guest, I am just about to make an order to Edcor but knowing you are not far from my home in Antipolo well if you can I need some transformer and chokes also, please let me know if you can do it....Regards....Acky

sorry for the very late reply.....yes i do design and customize traffos, but i am still a hobby and the only way you can get hold of my traffos is when you buy my finished amps....

but fire me a pm or email with your requirements and i can set you up with a friend who makes them commercially....

No problem Tony, for now I am ok but for the next project I will contact you....regards

Some questions..

Hi Mr Tony.

Some basic level questions, please if you can cooperate with me.

Before assembling the set, each individual lamination plate E and I has some insulating cover ... (some dielectric varnish for example). ?

For power transformers, there are many differences between using grain oriented and non-grain oriented lamination.

In transformers in general, it is mandatory that the each layer wire must occupy the entire width of the bobbin. ?

Where do you buy and what are the specifications of the lamination you use? . Is the same for PT and OPT transformers ?

I have 0.5 millimeter non-oriented grain lamination available .... but I have my doubts regarding this, final operating temperature, noise, etc.

Can you help me to model a power transformer for TSEII 2A3.

It is now or never, I want to assemble the power transformer for a Tubelab SEII amp, with two 2A3, two 5842 and one 5AR4 valves.....accompanied by two OPT Trascendar 3K/8 ohms.
Several here have used Hammond 370 HX for Power Transformer....

Thanks in advance Mr Tony.
