Is it possible to use IRF9610?

I've got a few IRF9130 (TO-3) and IRF9610 (TO-220), are they suitable as CCS and output devices in the shunt reg V.1? Or maybe in more advanced versions

9130 as output and 9610 as CCS, they will do OK.

Oops, I was wrong, I've got 9640's, not 9610. They seem to be equal to IRFP9240.

They can worsen or upset some circuits here with their higher Ciss if not tested as non oscillating substitutions. Proceed but check stability. They will be slower as CCS than 9610 that is for sure. Treble might be better subjectively with 9610.

Salas: Is it possible to change the 2SK117GR's & BC550C for something else, and it would be possible to use this circuit up to 90v output? The other transistors seem to take the voltage as far as i can see. Or would there be any other trouble?

There will be thermal trouble. If using slower bigger semis to sustain that, there will be performance loss. For that voltage region, check my SSHV circuits that can go lower than 100-150V with smaller ref resistors or an elevated voltage Reflektor I had shown enough pages back with FBET transistors.

But i will only run approx 40mA + maybe 50mA shunt. That shouldn't give any thermal problems.. why i would like to run this regulator instead is because it takes less space, and i will run ECC88 at low voltage. ~34VAC w. voltage doubler.

The small internal semis would have thermal challenges with the voltage you have in mind, their bias does not change with the CCS setting.

Try this one. The Sanyo FBET technology BJT semis are cheap and available from Fairchild as KSC, KSA types.
