For fear of overstepping my boundary here, I will let Dave fill you in about his ordeal when he returns.

What I can say is that things are looking better but he is not out of the odds nor able to communicate yet and probably won't be for a few weeks. I have passed on your thoughts and well wishes to his wife. She takes them to Dave everyday and whispers them in his ear. I for one believe this is a positive influence and dare I say a factor in his recovery. I know he will be heartened to reacquaint with the caring nature of diyAudio as soon as he can.
Thank you all.

Yes, Those were the days weren't they! That was perhaps the finest and most qualified Audio Group that I've ever belonged to. What a great group of Top-Notch people!

There were top-notch people that were members of that group. At least three PhD speaker design engineers, mathematicians, a SONAR specialist, speaker manufacturers.... We didn't always agree, but the discussions were educational and informative. And the group really promoted experimentation to move forward the hobby and state of the art.

Hi Calhoun,
Thank you for keeping those lines of communication open with Ruth. Once Dave can talk again I'm sure he will be extremely pleased with your efforts.

His recovery will be a long one. He might feel like getting right back at it, but he won't have the energy to do much. Everything will be an effort for him.

Everyone, as soon as you see Dave posting, you're going to have to take it real easy on him. He will want to post much more than he can. He is in rough shape now. Please keep your expectations lower than what I know you expect. He really has to get involved again gently.

anatech - yes indeed, for those of us who know Dave and have worked with him for over 15yrs, the biggest concern is not that he won't make a recovery, but that he'll try to make up for perceived lost time when he does.

It will be a bit of tough love, but let's try to disabuse him of that notion at the appropriate juncture.

Hold on there Chris, let's not allow him off the hook yet - we have a lot of work lined up for Dave, many questions to ask him as we value his advice highly - I think we'd better ask him to hurry up :)

... in all seriousness, wishing for a speedy recovery and hopes he takes it easy and enjoys some quiet time with his family.

Hi Chris,
You're a lot closer to Dave than I ever could be. I know from experience what Dave is going through, and when you said he isn't "in any position to receive or process much auditory or optical input", you weren't kidding. I'm hoping that he misses the worst of the pain while he's sedated. Interested folks here really need to back off him when he returns so Dave can take baby steps. When he first appears, I doubt he'll be in any condition to spend any time posting, or even thinking of a problem. But, he will push himself if we let him. Not good.

Too many Chris' around here. We are both Chris B. :)

You guys are great - I'm feeling a bit verklempt myself right now

Someone said in an earlier conversation either here or privately that 2016 was a mofo of a year (I paraphrase) - indeed! In September last year my wife was diagnosed with an intestinal cancer that due to excellent surgical care and pure $hithouse luck was caught in time. It still took 2 surgeries this year, with 6 months on a ileostomy bag between to remedy, and her new normal is now contingent on timing and proximity to washrooms.

Fortunately she's retained the ability to remind me I have no right to complain about my own minor ailments - so that part is exactly the same.

Dave! I was so shocked to hear about your condition. Get better man. Youre a huge asset to this community and Van Isle diy'ers.

Ruth, hang in there and keep up the good fight. Youre clearly an incredible women. I cant imagine what youre going through.

Chris, sucks seeing a friend in pain like this. Nothing said can change that.
