From your picture the bezel is not flush… that it usually the goal with the rebate. So there is probably room for more rebate.

If you don't want to domore rebate, orit still doesn't reach the holey brace, then you want to use something fairly stiff to bridge the difference, a sliver of wood, or even a piece or 2 of paper.

The supplied gadget is thin and narrow enough to have virtually no effect on the depth of rebate required for bezel to be flush with baffle, which IIRC is no more than 3 mm
I'd consider a different head on the mounting hardware - if you're using machine screws and threaded inserts, try button head rather than cap screws.

Completed these now... I rather like the stainless steel hex-machine bolts with M4 brass inserts,

Love them - veneered in American Black Walnut and given a few coats of wax/oil... rebate and ports pre-painted in black, then veneered & cut through - finish was very clean.

Very pleased with them - I don't often make speakers, but needed a decent desk-top/near-field pair for a small valve amp I'm building.

Surprisingly good range from such a small speaker - highly directional (of course), but can fill a room if needed.

Soundstage is good - extremely well defined (as you would expect) - they are best used at or just below head level between 1 and 2 metres away with the units approx 1.5 metres apart.

Currently using a small APPJ PA0901A amp - very nice sound.
