Bias high voltage leaking from the wire to the panels mylar…
or bias wire inside the backplate.
Cant do much about the wire,mylar...but ck in side the backplate...been there done that..just moveing the wire around may work to stop the poping ….you can turn the back plate bias up in the dark room may see the flash...could be just a hair or lint got on the mylar this can -well make a leak.....Good luck
