ESL63 issue

Just joined and already asking for help.

I have a pair of QUAD esl63s which have been working perfectly until now. I believe that they were serviced by QUAD a few years ago.
One speaker is producing a strange, rhythmic "puttering" sound rather like a lawn mower, or maybe a discharging capacitor. Turning on the amplifier eliminates the noise. It starts again as soon as the amp (QUAD 306) is turned off. There appears to be no issue with actual music playback.
I have swapped leads with the other speaker, but with no change. The other speaker is working perfectly.

Is there something obviously wrong or do I need to send them to QUAD?
Any recommendations for alternative repairers in the UK?

Thank you in advance
