1/ a previously working music player I wrote has stopped working. Debugged it and it wont open music files
2/ PC keeps blue screening with various error messages.
3/ Windows update doesn't work, keeps resorting back to older version.
4/ Strange version of Windows with odd power down button sequence required.
5/ Visual studio often blue screens.
6/ MPLAB X microcontroller programming IDE quite often blue screens on power up.
I ran disk checker and drives are fine. Ran memory checker and that is fine.
Tried to reinstall windows but trying to burn windows to flash drive fails at 8% every time.
Starting to tear my hair out at this point.
So pulled one DRAM module out and still blue screens.
So put it back and removed other one.
PC been fine since...………
Got another module on order so will be interesting to see if that fixes it or there is problem with having two modules in at the same time.

Bad RAM causes funny issues. If application(s) run fine with 1/2 the RAM, then using only 1 DIMM is fine. If using 2, make sure to place in appropriate/paired DIMM slots.
If you want to verify if indeed DIMM or slot is bad, try running memtest on each DIMM in a slot #1. Use process of elimination.

I had a look through the motherboard manual.
They say to try to match DIMMs.
They also say there "A" slots and "B" slots and try to put pairs of DImm's both in same so 2 "B"'s or 2 "A"'s.
I have put the 4GB DIMM back in but in the same slot as the 8GB DIMM.
Ran some programs that previously crashed and the yare fine now.
Maybe speaking too soon so will give it a while and see how things go.
Got a Crucial 8GB DIMM coming same as the other 8GB one so hopefully that will sort out the problems..
