Its fairly common that audiophiles use Apple as their platform rather than windows or a PC. Why is this ? I will assume we are talking about the software aspect of everything, so, would a Hackintosh be equivalent to an IMac ?
Were is the magic of APPLE so to speak.

If you look through the topics in this PC Based sub-forum I think you'll find that Linux is most mentioned followed by Windows then Apple more rarely...

Today started with reading about using MacMini with a BitPerfect plugin as music server and here we are... LOL. I did check out Daphile a while back and simply forgot about it. I guess its time to take a closer look this time

I'm an Apple fanboy, but I use ArchLinux for my music server. (If I were setting one up now, I'd probably use ap-linux, which is a variant of ArchLinux.)

Daphile might be the one to use. I will go through the big thread here on diya.

The DAC I will use is "only" 192kHz/24bit just like Daphile and Linux based, so it should be a match

Daphile does look interesting. I use Roon for playback, though, so I don't need the Squeezebox stuff.

I use F2K on my windows machine, but it will not be used on my audio system, there I want among the absolute best. Take Spotify, its only used for casual listening or finding albums, then I go out and buy/download the high-res version and store it locally.
So the options are: JRiver + IOS (on a PC) Daphile ... or Lumin U1 Mini as a dedicated player. But cost much more than the two mentioned above. I still need to build the PC for the Daphile and I am considering: PC -> iFi Nano iUSB3.0 ->ARMATURE HECATE -> DAC
