Daphile - Audiophile Music Server & Player OS

This is a great piece of software the only let down is a list of wireless adapters support, i am thinking of getting one of these but it is so hit and miss i just don't know' all the adapters listed in this forum are no longer available so that is of no help. Does anyone know if any these adapters will work?

so any idea why i cant connect? i should be able to connect directly one PC to the other PC via an Ethernet cable and control that way is that correct? i might take my Netgear adapter and plug it into the laptop(turn off inbuilt wifi) and see if it will work with that, if it does then it is something to do with my pc.It seem Daphile is very picky with what it will work with.

My PC
Gigabyte G1 Sniper B6
intel 4790k

16GB ram
Samsung SSD
Maybe my motherboard is not compatible, if only there was a list of parts that where known to work it would be a lot easier to get this going because at the moment it is very hit and miss.

Can you connect both your daphile PC and your control PC to a common router which provides DHCP service? That way you would make sure both devices get their correct IP address.

For direct connection between two machines - Windows (and linux) support link local address assignment Link-local address - Wikipedia . When joining two machines with ethernet, each should be accessible from the other one via name hostname.local (e.g. daphile.local).

When you link your windows machine to the daphile PC, can you ping daphile.local from the cmd window?

not at the moment we are staying with my daughter and her partner to help them save for a house we are upstairs the modem is downstairs. when i connected the netgear A6210 to the laptop it did not give usual IP address to connect to 10.0.0.6 but a message saying
ready use the web interface
IP address 192.168.128.1- WiFi hotspot only

the pc did not and has not given me that option or any option

New question - more than one HDD

A question about storage. I have been using Daphile for several years, with most music stored on a server, and only a small SSD in the Daphile PCs. I now want to locate a PC where I have poor WiFi - enough to be able to transfer files slowly, but not reliable for streaming. So I have re-purposed a RipNAS device with its two 1TB drives, to have a local copy of my music server's contents, and avoid having to stream over network. Is there any way within Daphile to use both disks transparently, as RAID 0 or a spanned volume? Of course I can just fill up one disk first and then start saving to the other, but it would be more elegant if they appeared as one volume. I know from the changelog that Daphile became able to use RAID a long time ago, but I assume that refers to RAID on a server etc, as I can see no way in the setup to configure local disks as RAID?
Thanks very much.

some say that modern equipment doesn't need crossover cable it works it out automatically, i will just have to wait for crossover cable or try my wife laptop which is a lot newer.
These are the settings i have been using in Daphile
ignore wireless setup go to static ip setup
192.168.0.1
255.255.255.0
Default gateway 10.0.0.138
DNS 10.0.0.138 i have also tried 1.1.1.1
search domain 0.0.0.0 i have also tried 1.0.0.1

in windows in Ethernet properties i have
192.168.0.2
255.255.255.0
DNS 10.0.0.138 i have also tried 1.1.1.1
search domain 0.0.0.0 i have also tried 1.0.0.1

if i use Esets home monitor to see devices i see a Daphile machine with sometimes a 192.168.0.2 IP and then other times i see 192.168.128.1 but that's a hotspot that does not show up on any device computer/iphone any help with these setting would bee most appreciated and if you live near Parkes NSW or ever come by i will shout you a beer or 2, Thank you.

You want the two computers to be on the same network.
So if your network is 192.168.0.0, you'll want daphile on 192.168.0.0 network as well. Obvious I know.
What you need to do is make sure you find an ip address that's free. You can do this by logging on to your wireless/router/switch and list attached devices.
Pick an ip that's not in use and add it to daphile.
Chances are it's a/24 network so there should be lots of available ip addresses.

The default gateway for your computer is the ip of the wireless router. Which might be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0 254, but not always. The default gateway is the path to networks outside the network you are on, generally the internet in basic home setups.

From a workinging computer in your network try this:
From a command prompt, enter PING 192.168.0.255, hit enter.
Wait for it to complete.
Next, enter arp -a, hit enter.
This should list systems on the network.
Pick an ip between 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.254 that's not in use.
You can check the chosen ip by pinging it and if no response, it's free to use.

Are you talking about wireless or Ethernet connection? Because at this point in time the only option i have is through Ethernet until i find a wireless network adapter,
if someone could post the numbers i need to enter with 'XX" to represent the free IP number.
Daphile setting please edit these as how they should be please my router ip is
http://10.0.0.138/0.1 or http://10.0.0.138 both open the login page for my router, i am skipping the wireless part and just setting static ip

192.168.0.1
255.255.255.0
Default gateway 10.0.0.138
DNS 10.0.0.138 i have also tried 1.1.1.1
search domain 0.0.0.0 i have also tried 1.0.0.1

in windows in Ethernet properties i have
192.168.0.2
255.255.255.0
DNS 10.0.0.138 i have also tried 1.1.1.1
search domain 0.0.0.0 i have also tried 1.0.0.1

the reason for the 192.168.0.1 number is through Eset connected devices page i saw Daphile shown and that was the IP at one stage i have been able to see Daphile on the Eset connected devices screen many times(on my laptop) that can run Daphile wirelessly i have no problem finding free IP addresses

please fill in the numbers for me, Thank you

The problem seems to be related that the router is on a 10.0.0.x network and daphile is on 192.168.0.x network, the router and daphile need to be on the same subnet ie: 10.0.0.x or 192.168.0.x

You will need to change your router to 192.168.0.138 / 255.255.255.0 or change daphile to 10.0.0.x / 255.255.255.0 / Gateway address 10.0.0.138 (where x is a number between 1 and 254 but not 138 because thats the router address)

Use the advice vdi_nenna provided in post #4414 so you don't have two devices with the same IP address.

Example:
Daphile - IP address - 10.0.0.150
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway Address - 10.0.0.138

Router - IP address - 10.0.0.138
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0

or

Daphile - IP address - 192.168.0.150
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway Address - 192.168.0.138

Router - IP address - 192.168.0.138
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0

i am not using a router the PC and laptop are connected through Ethernet cable, these are the latest settings i tried see post below as image upload did not work first time and i can't delete the image link

please label the settings for Daphile and then PC because the last post was unclear as what numbers were for what side of the connection, thanks for the help i know i am probably being a pain but i have never had so much trouble with connecting something in my life, if i cant get it sorted soon and the 2 USB wireless adapters i just ordered don't work then i am going to have to pay someone, and that will hurt as i have never had to pay for someone to do something on my computer since i built my first one 15 years ago. it feels as though i have lost my mind with this thing lol
