Choke Coupling

Fellow DIY brains,

I am pondering on a problem regarding two inductors for my Aleph 2 project. I have two 3mH air coils in a CLC supply filter.

I have very little space available, and I want to place both inductors such, that their fields are in line. I suggest that there will be some transformer action, but could I use this to my benefit? Or is this a no-go at all cases?

Yes, this works. To confirm that the wiring polarity of the
two coils is the way you want it, measure the AC ripple voltage
of the supply, and then reverse the leads of one of the coils.
If the AC ripple is lower, then there you are.
