Nelson Pass and Michael Rothacher Presenting at Burning Amp!

@MEPER

Since you asked...

Storage was not perfect, but adequate. I've found that with old style cabs from great vintages and great producers, that were made in more of a Bordeaux style, age gracefully. The estate wines of John Daniel Jr. fall into this category.

I was fortunate to have picked up a handful of these back in the late 1990s when I worked for Francis Ford Coppola at what was then Niebaum ~ Coppola Winery. To make room for a new tasting area, they were selling off, to employees, hundreds of bottles of old wine that they thought were problably past their prime. I picked up the best estate Cask Cabernets from vintages that were considered great in the Napa Valley. My purchase really paid off!

Cask A-1 was my absolute favorite from 1974. Cask A-9 my second favorite. It had a bouquet of ripe blackberries and wild honeycomb. The mouthfeel was delicate, like silk, tasting of blackberry with a long finish. It was actually very pinot like. I sure hope I find another one buried in one of my boxes!

We now return to normal programming... :D
