Pass X150 DC Protection info

Hi Hi all.

Has The Pass Labs X150 a DC Protecion ?


I have a Pass Labs X150 matched with a Spectral DMC20 S2 preamp

The Spectral allows you to disable ,trough an internal switch, the DC protection for better sound.

But only if the destination power amp has DC Protection itself

you are not celar with your question , but I figured that you're asking does your amp is having capacitor coupled input

yes , there are 35V rated capacitors at inputs

be sure that your Spectral is not throwing more than 35Vdc out

Unfortunately I don’t have the Spectral DMC20 instruction manual.
So I don’t know if it is 35v or not
How can I find it ?

disengage output protection and put your DVM on output

though , there is hardly possibility of so high voltage at output ...... I was joking , more or less

So, can I try to disengage the DC Protection with no problems?

Switch on your X150 with input elcaps not bypassed
Switch on your DMC20-preamp
If you don't hear a "plop" in your loudspeakers, then you have a good chance that your preamp has no severe DC-offset on its output
Having switched off your preamp you now can bypass input elcaps from your X150 with no risk; after this switch on your preamp again.
Now watch the woofer: if it stays in its rest position then everything is ok.

Dc from source, malfunction on amp or preamp can cause DC. DC protection means something to disconnect speakers should excessive DC occur on speaker terminals probably.
