The Xmas board (generously gifted by Papa) came with the Toshibas. For a friend, I am about to build a DIY store board with the Fairchilds. I will do an A-B listening test after completion and post my results.
Looking forward to the results!

You realize you to use the exact same components.
You realize you to use the exact same components.
Power supply, input potentiometer, resistors, capacitors, zener: all will be the same except for the Jfets. There will be A-B hardwired switchover of source and power amp connections between the two units for instant comparison. Gain matching with pink noise and calibrated measurement microphone.
I have both Toshiba and Fairchild version, they sound identical to me.
Ive built both and they sound the same to me too.
I use Takman Metalfilm 1/2 w. Better then the others. Been there tried them all.
I go with Vishay Dale for now (mostly RN55....learned that from 6L6) but where is your source for Takman? ….HiFiCollective?
When I read how Takman Rex and Vishay Dale RN55 are made they seems quite similar. I have not been able to find out which material RN55 use for the end caps. Takman Rex use brass. Both use copper lead outs and Chrome/Nickle alloys for the element.
Some components seems to have lead outs with some iron in.....else they wont be magnetic I guess…..I suspect it could be some of the small diodes. The lead outs are thin but feels a bit hard to cut.
Hificollective or Partconnexion. I think Dale is a little hard sounding in compare.
Try with a strong magnet. Prp is also unmagnetic but is the worst sounding off them I think. This is from hearing when I was a bit younger. Now I do not think I would be able to hear the difference anymore. Or maybe because I do not try

Nice implementation, Marra! I was considering going the LDR route as well - I have a few sets and a dedicated 5v regulator board sitting in my parts box still. For now, I'm using a $20 Chinese 50k stepped ladder. Perhaps I'll wire up the LDR at a later date and see how it compares...
Nice built Marra... what LDR kit is that?
Thanks guys.
The LDR board was from a GB organised by dvb-projeckt some yearsago with the consent of George Strantscheff.
