Chaps - referring specifically to NP's SIT amp with CCS/mu-follower - is a regulated supply considered essential ? Noting that NP's other published VFET amp projects use regulated supplies ...

it depends of overall arrangement - dual or single rail, where are biasing references etc.

study Papa's DEF amp for clever tricks

in case of expecting more precise reply, please place more precise question, enclosing enough details

it's always easier when context is firmer

Thanks zm and fair point.
Does the circuit attached need a regulated Supply for its main rails ? If so, any idea why ?

no

pentodish part on top, in that arrangement, means enough of effective impedance to shield from rail ripple

if you want to kill it completely, lead speaker return to positive rail

relocate shunt resistor too

but always be aware that said output terminal is on 60Vdc potential; it'll not kill or zap, but it can make damage, if not handled with care

The SIT has a low Drain impedance, which means that any noise
appearing between Source and Drain pins will result in noise current.
If either of these pins are attached to a noisy voltage and the other to
the load, the noise will go through easily.

For this reason the SIT-3 has its drain attached to ground, and the rest
of the circuit, which looks at the minus rail, is designed not to conduct
noise.

Of course a quiet regulated supply is always nice....

kasey197, I built mono-blocks of that circuit with THF-51S output, powered by a CLC supply: 22mF - Hammond 159ZJ - 22mF. The ripple according to PSUD is less than 2mV.

The amps are quiet enough for my 103dB speakers. The voltage may vary a bit depending on line voltage, but that has not been a problem as far as I can tell.

My mistake - capacitance was 44mF each, not 22mF.
