Hello,
I´m just at the end of building a F5. I´m actually wondering, if the MUR3020 diodes need to be supported by heatsinks. As they can take 30A, they shouldn´t get warm. Is this right?
Thanks for advise,
Renton
They do need moderate heatsinking
30A and Vf ~ 1V equates to 30W of heat that must be dissipated.
Even 5A & Vf ~ 700mV equates to 3.5W and that raises the Tj and Tc. The current must be limited to suit the actual operating temperatures.
If you have no heatsink, the de-rated current will be MUCH lower than with a small heatsink fitted.
