Hi 6L6,

here are two pictures of my Zen HP amp.

The amp PCBs are mirror images of what you normally see with this amp. I haven''t realized that the files I was using were seen from the elements side. But I have changed the connections to the transistors terminals obviously.

Is it crucial in this design to star connect all the grounds? I was also planning to use shielded cables everywhere for the signal connections.

The power supply is about 20V.

Many thanks,
Greg

Hi,

My bigger caps have not arrived yet. In the meanwhile I tried a regulated PS.
I used some 78xx I had lying around. I used 5k pot to set the ground voltage seen by the regulator. I lost some 2V of the output of the PSU but there is no hum whatsoever.
Still evaluating, but this might be a better solution for me that the caps.

I was browsing some old posts recently.

This one need clarification on my side.
The hum I was complaining about was coming from a ground loop (I did not expect it in that place). So it was my fault. The amp is now pretty quiet using my HD595. I have somewhat more (but not much more) capacitance in the power supply.
Now it sounds more like I expected it to sound when I stared the project.
The sound has changed dramatically.
