Hi Pete,
I've seen some die covered with some kind of clear sealer before in parts I know are real. Factory original dead things. Yeah, the encapsulent can smell pretty bad. I've opened a few in years gone by. -Chris |

Hi Mitwrong,
The symasym was a joint project by MikeB and Pavel. They both did a lot of work on this. Here are three threads: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showt...27#post1020427 http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showt...532#post683532 the original. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showt...23#post1020423 And my search results (many!) are here .... http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/searc...der=descending It's a well known amp in this forum. -Chris |

Hi Mitwrong,
I am biased. With the help of Mike and Clem-o, I built a pair of Symasym amplifiers. At about 50 W, they are the right size for many projects. I can tell you that they sound very good. Well beyond the economical amplifier that Mike set out to design. This amp project is a credit to everyone who contributed on this forum. -Chris |

just wondering..... anybody found any fake 2SC5200/2SA1943 transistors?....... just troubleshot two amps today that have shorted output devices, and ordered new transistors. just want to make sure the new ones aren't fake. the originals had laser etched part numbers, and were so hard to read black on black), i had to rub heat sink grease into the lettering to get it to show up. just recently started working at this pro-audio shop, and want to be sure the parts supplier i have been buying from is selling real parts. never had a problem with them before, but with the prices i saw for these parts, i just want to be sure.....

as to the use of "goop" on dies..... i have seen the inside of a lot of motorola to-3 transistors, and they always have a drop of clear silicone rubber rubber on the die.

Pictures I took of the Sanken parts:
I got a bit too close with the cut off disk and ground off the plating and exposed the copper on a few of these: http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s...NKEN/CLOSE.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s...ANKEN/OPEN.jpg http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s...CLOSE_OPEN.jpg These parts look good as far as I can tell.
