Does anyone remember a discussion about someone using wall-mounted transformer-based speaker volume controls as the volume control in a preamp? I can't seem to find the information.

I just purchased a pair of Dave Slagle's autoformer and it's rekindled my interest in playing with the cheap wall-mounted units.
