sony nwz - zx1 battery connection

I have sony nwz- zx1 walkman. The Battery seems to be defective.
I checked on net, the battery have 3 connections. But it says 3.7V/1000mah.
How & why this 3rd connection?
Can we replace with 2 connection just +ve & -ve battery here?

There is a 2 wire battery available easily.

Thanks in advance

Charging sensor from battery chip is the third wire to tell main unit cut off charging.
Some cell phone repairmen will open the pack and inside there will be a two wire battery connected to a small circuit.
Here they change the battery and close up the pack if the original battery is not available.
You can put a BL5-CA, will work if same size.
Understand that the 2 wire battery is connected to a tiny circuit inside the battery pack, which is a frame with the battery and circuit, and the whole thing is wrapped up. The third wire is taken from the circuit to tell the main unit what is the charge level.
There are battery charging ICs available, and the chips are there on every cell phone battery.
2 wire battery will not tell Walkman when to stop charging, or stop working on low level. Could damage the unit.

Check the wiring on Walkman and battery.
If really original is not available, ERD is a good local brand.
And connect it the way it was, I hope you took photos...
It should work, lots of FM radios also use a removable cell phone battery.
